Sis Covers

Sis is a San Francisco band led by Jenny Gillespie Mason, whose music and visual world are surreal, haunting and slightly uncanny. Jenny wanted her own drawings and paintings to form the basis of the artwork for a series of digital single releases. The source material was wonderfully irregular — pencil and biro drawings on loose paper, scraps and incidental surfaces, sometimes layered over her children’s drawings. I traced and isolated the artworks, then developed a colour and graphic system that allowed each image to retain its individuality while working as part of a recognisable series. A soft dimensional treatment gave the linework an almost glowing, moulded quality — bringing a digital quality to the hand-drawn imagery that echoed the electronic quality of the music while retaining its strange, dreamlike character. The resulting covers were created for Bandcamp and other digital music platforms.
